4.5 Star Rated Winery – Halliday
Bellbrae Estate is just a cool, fun place to hang out and the wines on offer are on point. Sitting on the famous Great Ocean Road the only that is missing from this winery is the Ocean view, but what it might lack in views is made up with the outdoor area, both covered and uncovered. In the warmer months, this place is a hangout for wine lovers alike.
The cellar door is almost wrapped up in the big pines trees that welcome you, and on the inside, there is plenty of room, and it is just enjoyable space to enjoy some well-made wine by David Crawford.
On offer are two tiers of wines, the longboard range which conjures up thoughts in my imagination of just chill and relax is certainly the theme for these wines. Easy and approachable wines, well made and starting at $25 and just quietly the Pinot Noir in this range is probably one of the best for the region at this price point.
Next up is the Bellbrae Estate Range, encompassing a Shiraz (which is actually from Heathcote – one of my favourite Shiraz regions), Pinot Noir – Bird Rock, Sparkling Shiraz – Winkipop and a Reserve Tawny – Haystacks.
What’s with the funny names? Any local should know, but the names are that of surf breaks in and around the area. The Bellbrae Estate wines are only made in those good years.
A touch over four hectares under vine, Bellbrae Estate is a great place along the Surf Coast to visit and chill out with friends while enjoying some lovely wine.
