5 Red Star Rated Winery – Halliday
What do you get when you have a scientist that loves wine? You get Lethbridge Wines. Ray and Maree were carving out careers in the science and medical industries, but both of them had a passion for wine.
In 2003 those jobs of old started to become a distant memory as the winery was up and running and producing some quality wine indeed.
Producing wines that focus on balance and texture and doing it in the most natural is how they like to go about it.
The cellar door is charming and has a touch of rustic appeal mixed in with adobe design. As you walk into the cellar door, there is a large table that invites you to sit down and enjoy a pleasant wine tasting. Peter is an experienced wine man himself and if you get him pouring some wine for you be sure to pay attention as the wine education and story telling will certainly keep you intrigued.
With seven hectares under vine and partnerships in place with other regions, you can enjoy the classics of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay here, but what sets Lethbridge wines apart is their other varieties that they have on offer. Nebbiolo, Tempranillo, Malbec and Sangiovese are a few of those alternative varieties on offer and if you haven’t tried them here is a great place to start.
The wines here start at $32 and go up to $85 for the top shelf offerings; not all wines are available for tasting, but what you will taste will certainly bring about a smile of intrigue and enjoyment
