5 Red Star Rated Winery – Halliday
Oakdene Winery is just tucked off Grubb Road on the way to Ocean Grove. The focus on varieties such as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz are what play to the wineries strengths.
With 25 acres of vines and some 13 wines to try this is a winery that is certainly worth the visit. Quirky art populates the nooks and crannies, and there is an abundance of it everywhere. Liz certainly has a flair for the creative.
From a dining point of view, Oakdene has long been a credible name when it comes to finding a place that specialises in the modern Australia and European styles of food. Ingredients are sourced locally and regionally, and if you make the time to grab a bite to eat here, you should be well rewarded with a delightful dish.
The wines on offer start at an entry level which is their blue label, the price point of these wine sit between $20 and $25. Next up is the white label offering, these wines are considered their signature wines and range from mid-$20’s right to the mid $40’s for their Shiraz and Pinot Noir. The William Shiraz is certainly noteworthy as is the Pinot Noir in this range.
Oakdene is a one stop shop for great food and wine, and the hospitality that is provided here by the cellar door staff has always been an enjoyable experience. They are knowledgeable and have a genuine appreciation for the wine that they are pouring.
This place does get busy, and it is always suggested to get in here early and start the day right.
Great Wine, Great Food, easy to get to – just how we like it – Thank you Oakdene!
