The sensational Johnny Q Shiraz!
This Johnny Q Shiraz is a wine that is an easy recommendation when someone asks “What is a good Shiraz?”
There are many aspects that make this wine such a delight and a lot of that comes down to fruit selection and a top notch wine maker at the helm.
Firstly, majority of the fruit is sourced from Padthaway, where is Padthaway you might be asking?
The area is consider cool climate, and this generally allows for an extended ripening period allowing the fruit to reach it’s maximum potential. There is a distinct aroma that comes with red wines from this region, it is very lifted, some what herbaceous with a touch eucalyptus thrown in. It inspires the imagination as to what food you could pair with this wine.
John Quarissa is the wine maker and his ability is on display with this wine. John has won both the coveted Jimmy Watson and Stoddart Trophies for his wine making skills.
To verify the Johnny Q Shiraz as great value there are some other accolades to take note of; both the current vintage 2012 and 2010 had scores of 90+, (we didn’t see a 2011 vintage) the wine consistently wins medals year in year out, including trophies – which in my opinion is the best accolade!
For your next Shiraz – give Johnny Q Shiraz a run through your favourite wine glass, I dare say you will be most impressed as I have been – for sub $15 this wine is a winner!
