Wine-tasting is an enjoyable and sophisticated experience, especially for wine enthusiasts. Walking through the lush vineries and opening several of the most exceptional bottles of wine is a serene and elegant way to relax with your friends amidst airy and peaceful surroundings.

If you don’t have the time to go to a winery, however, you can hold a wine tasting experience at home with your friends. You can even make it exciting and fun by playing the Wine Brackets game!

Wine Brackets is a well-known wine tasting game that is widely played by many wine clubs. For each round of the game, two different wines from opposite brackets compete against each other. The winner for every round then moves to the next level of the game until participants find the best wine or the “wine of the night.”

The game requires eight bottles of wine, a master bracket, paper bags, and a competitor’s bracket for the participants.

If you are interested to know more about this game, here is a step-by-step guide on how to play Wine Brackets:

Choose a Theme

You can choose a theme that can help develop your palate. You could opt for a dinner party theme wherein wines are paired with certain dishes. Know that a theme can inject more fun into the game.

Set Up the Table

Each participant should have their own station at the table. Place the tasting glasses, a pen, and a paper. Multiple glasses at each station are ideal to help the participants to compare the wines better. You can also add some snacks for each of their stations on the table.

Arrange the Wines

Collect all the wines and put them in the paper bags. Make sure to number each bag and add the numbers to the bracket.

Start Tasting

After you bag and tag the tags, pour a glass of the first wine for the participants. Allow some time for the participants to write down their thoughts about each wine that they taste. When everyone has finished, you can proceed to the second wine.

Cast Your Votes

At the end of each wine tasting round, everyone will cast their vote on their favourite wine. The wine that receives the most votes will proceed to the next round.

Choose the Winner

Once there are only two wines left, pour them in glasses and make everyone vote. Since it’s the final round, you hype your friends up to make it more intense.

When playing this game, keep in mind that it doesn’t require you to taste some of the most expensive wines, you can even do a blindfold wine tasting of the cheapest wines that were bought from the supermarket and still have fun. You might even find yourself appreciating more these cheap wines.

A game of Wine Brackets can turn wine tasting experience into a fun game. If you want to do it with your friends and loved ones, it can even be a great party idea!

With this game, know that you don’t have to go to a winery just to have a wine tasting experience. You can do it from the comforts of your own home and sometimes, it’s even more fun that way!
